You may be tempted to let the need for Chicago small business security alarm systems go; it’s too much trouble or maybe it seems like there is too little to be gained. Trust us, we have three big reasons why you shouldn’t ignore this trend in crime.
Specifically looking at retail businesses, we find that the risk for theft is great. According to an article released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), organized retail theft is a $30 billion dollar-a-year industry. Recently in the news, three men were charged with a $3,300 retail theft at just a single retail location. Per the report from the Palm Beach Post (released on May 29, 2015):
Three men were arrested in connection to the attempted theft of more than $3,300 of merchandise from a Bloomingdale’s in the Town Center Mall at Boca Raton on Tuesday evening, according to an arrest report…When Boca Raton police arrived they found the men in a Mercedes with additional items from the store, the report said.
Obviously, retail theft puts a strain on businesses and their bottom line. However, we need to look at how this translates overall. The article referenced previously from the FBI tells us the following:
…it means higher prices for American consumers and less sales tax revenue for state and local governments.
The article goes on to talk about the safety risk involved based on the types of products that thieves try to resell. If certain products; such as, pharmaceuticals are to be kept under certain conditions, unsuspecting consumers could get be at risk for serious illness as a result.
The bottom line is more than just a number. Businesses do not want to have to raise prices to consumers because they know this could mean potential loss of business to their competitors all together. It is important to consider theft prevention so that these businesses can focus on their major marketing needs (price being one of them) in order to stay competitive.
