Increase Home Security in Chicago with These Important Tips

1. Keep doors locked. As simple as it sounds, that is THE most important step you can take to secure your home since the door is the most logical point of entry into your dwelling. 
2. Secure windows by installing keyed locks into window sashes to deter or delay any potential intruder. Cacti or thorny vegetation planted in front of windows on the ground floor is also a good deterrent.
3. Keep entryways lit. If you live in a single-family dwelling, install floodlights with passive infrared sensors near all entrances to detect unexpected movement or disturbances. If you live in a condo or apartment, speak to the building manager about unlit or poorly lit areas of concern.
4. Consider the installation of a home security system. According to police, 90% of burglars avoid homes with a home security system in place. With proper signage and window stickers warning potential thieves that their activities are being monitored, chances are high that they will move right along to another less protected victim.
